RATING SYSTEM

DNF:

Could not finish:( Try as I might, this book makes me want to throw it off a cliff and into the sea. Or use it to clean my floor, a boring task for a boring book.

1 Star:

Ehh. I struggled to finish this book and the review will be just as painful as the reading experience.

2 Stars:

It was... okay? The book wasn't THAT bad. Well. Okay it was kind of bad. But it did have some okay moments, would not recommend these books.

3 Stars:

It was good. Not exactly a masterpiece, but I did enjoy this book, characters, writing and plot were all decent although they could have been better. Would maybe recommend these books if you have nothing else to read and/or are bored.

4 Stars:

I liked it! It may not have been perfect, but I really enjoyed reading this book and will probably reread in the future.

5 Stars:

I loved it! This book is perfection. Characters? Perfect. Plot? Perfect. Writing? Perfect. I could reread this book over and over

I do make use of half star ratings if my opinion is somewhere in between, for example if I enjoyed a book but I thought that the characters were flat, I might rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

What I think about when rating/reviewing a book:

Plot: What was the storyline like, was it interesting, was the ending satisfying, was it original etc

Writing style: What was the prose like, was it dry, descriptive, did it feel amateur

Worldbuilding: Does the worldbuilding make sense, is it fleshed out properly, has the author thought about the world in detail

Pace: How quickly did the book move on, too fast, too slow, was it boring or did it keep me hooked

General feel: Was I emotionally invested in characters, did I feel emotions strongly, did I connect well with the book, characters, plot etc

Characters: Were they fleshed out properly, did they stand out from other characters, could I connect with or empathise with them, did they have an appropriate role in the story
